How To Program A Firestick Remote
Using the steps below will reprogram your Amazon Firestick remote no matter which generation of Firestick you own from the latest remotes with Alexa and Netflix buttons built on them to the old-style square Firestick generation 1 remotes.
- Unplug the power cable from your Amazon Firestick and the HDMI port.
- Wait 60+ seconds.
- Now on your Firestick remote hold the left, menu, and back buttons together for 13 seconds.
- After you have released the buttons wait another additional 6 seconds.
- Now remove the batteries from our firestick remote.
- Plug your firestick back into the HDMI port and then plug the power cable back in to turn the firestick on.
- After it says on the screen “remote can’t be detected” then you can now put the batteries back into your Firestick remote.
- Press and hold the Home button on your remote.
- You will now see the little LED light on your remote flash blue and this means your remote is now rested and reprogrammed to work with your firestick.
If you do not see the LED light flash from step 9 above simply let go of the home button and press and hold again for 10 seconds and then it will work.

Reprogramming Basic Edition Firestick Remote
- Press and hold the Home button and now press the Menu button 3 times
- Now release the Home button.
- Press the Menu button 9 times.
- Now proceed to take out the batteries from your firestick remote.
- Unplug the power cable from your Firestick and also remove the Firestick from the HDMI port.
- Now wait 60 seconds.
- Now add the batteries back into your Firestick remote and plug in your Firestick
- Once the Firestick home screen appears press and hold the Home button for 40 seconds.
- After the above wait an additional 60 seconds for the reprogramming and syncing to complete.
How To Reprogram The Alexa Voice Remote (1st Gen)
- Unplug your power cord from the firestick and unplug it from the TV HDMI port
- Now wait 60 seconds.
- Now with just the remote press the Left button and Menu button at the same time for 12 seconds.
- Now release the buttons after 12 seconds and wait 5 seconds.
- Remove the batteries from your Amazon Firestick remote.
- Plug your firestick back into your TV as well as its power cord.
- Once you see the message on the screen which says “remote can’t be detected” plug the batteries back in your remote control.
- Now press the Home button on your remote.
