Jailbreaking can be a very good thing so you can fully control your device and are not limited by manufacturers’ themes and apps.

The reason it’s named “Jailbreaking” is that you are freeing your device from the so-called jail in its by being tied down to just your manufacturer’s operating system, software, and themes.

How To Root (Jailbreak) Your Google Chromebook

No, you have a good idea of what a jailbreak is it’s time to get to work.

Please note: Before you start any jailbreaking can void the warranty of your Chromebook if it’s still under warranty. Also, all files will be deleted from the Chromebook so make sure to make a backup on an external USB hard drive or Google Drive.

  1. Make sure you have your Chromebook plugged into its power source and ideally on an ethernet connection.
  2. Turn off your Chromebook.
  3. Now press and hold both the ESC and Refresh (F3) keys and turn on the Chromebook while holding these keys down.
  4. You will now see a warning box pop up just press CTRL + D and then press the Enter key.
  5. Now the Chromebook will start to delete all the information on it and install all the developer mode things on it. This will take roughly 5 minutes.

After the process has finished your Chromebook will restart by itself.

You will now notice a warning which says “OS verification is OFF” this is fine and will happen every time you turn your Chromebook on.

You now have 2 options now you can wait 30 seconds for the screen to disappear and the Chromebook will now boot or press the keys CTRL +D to skip the 30 seconds wait.

That’s it your Chromebook is now jailbroken and you can access more features and install third-party apps, so it runs more like a real operating system should do.
